About WGC

Our people

At WGC our commitment to delivering the best service emanates from our hotel cleaning company origins, where standards were the only benchmark in differentiating a quality company. Continuing this theme has ensured we remain the supplier of choice although it is, of course, the people at WGC that really make our business.

Our Senior Management Team has worked in the hospitality sector for many years and includes former General Managers, Executive Housekeepers, and Operations Directors as well as a plethora of highly skilled management from diverse commercial backgrounds. We are proud of the extensive skills and experience they bring to the company.

Management development is a passion of ours and we are committed to ensuring the company stays focused and understands that continued success is due to the dedication of WGC’s hardworking teams throughout the UK.

We pride ourselves on the opportunities WGC creates for personnel at all levels to develop their careers and the company facilitates a wide ranging portfolio of development and training models to ensure our teams always remain motivated and knowledgeable.

Core values

Our core values define the character of our business and guide the decisions we make and how we operate day to day.

Upholding exceptional standards
Our success is founded on the quality and consistency of our work. We take pride in everything that we do and are relentless in our pursuit of exceptional standards.

Acting with integrity and transparency
We have a straightforward, open and honest approach to all of our relationships and we aim to conduct ourselves with integrity and to demonstrate transparency in all of our actions.

Demonstrating real commitment to our clients
Our business exists to serve our clients and we aim to make every relationship long term. We are committed to conducting ourselves with integrity at all times and to working closely with clients to understand their needs and develop solutions that are of the highest quality while also remaining cost efficient.

Championing our people
The biggest asset of WGC is the people who provide the services for our clients. We are committed to treating them with fairness and respect and to providing a safe and supportive working environment in which they can thrive and progress their careers.

Cultivating a can-do culture
The culture of our organisation encourages us to go the extra mile. We are open to new ideas and innovation and will always think creatively to overcome challenges and develop robust solutions.

Code of practice

Clear specifications
After assessing your requirements, we will produce a contract that encompasses all the regular and periodic cleaning regimes necessary to provide a consistently clean environment.

No hidden extras
We quote a fixed price for a fixed service with no hidden extras so you can budget accurately.

Stringent compliance
A strict multistage vetting process from site manager to main board level ensures total compliance with immigration, health & safety, TUPE, holiday pay, minimum wage and employment legislation.

Training
WGC’s services are always delivered by fully trained people. Everyone is placed on an induction programme at the start of each contract or whenever they take up a new assignment and we carry out regular refresher training. We have invested in our own training and development department and also encourage clients to introduce their company culture and brand standards to promote swift integration.

Management strength
We have one of the highest management-to-staff ratios in our industry. This ensures strong management and supervision, which is vital in upholding the exceptional standards of our work.

Health & safety first
Everyone at WGC is fully trained on health & safety matters by our in-house NEBOSH-qualified team and receives regular refresher training tailored to roles and responsibilities. All high-level rope access teams are IRATA licensed and approved.

Quality control
WGC’s Contract Integrity System helps us ensure that all our clients are fully satisfied with the service they receive. Supplementing this is our internal audit department, which is responsible for making sure we deliver agreed contract standards.

Health and safety

Health & safety is a top priority at WGC and an area that we challenge ourselves on constantly. We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of our people and those that come into contact with our services and to ensuring WGC’s operations comply with the UK’s wide-ranging and complex legislation.

  • Reporting directly to our Managing Director, WGC’s Health & Safety team is responsible for making sure policies, procedures and training regimes are aligned with current legislation and best practice.
  • Our management is fully conversant with risk-assessment procedures and is kept up to date with key changes in legislation. Together with WGC’s Health & Safety professionals our management works with clients on joint risk assessments, clearly defining policies, procedures and monitoring systems.
  • Everyone new to WGC attends in-depth training courses and must pass a competency examination before starting work. These courses are complemented by regular updates and refresher training. The overall training programme is controlled by WGC’s Training and Development Manager in conjunction with our Health & Safety Officer, and both are an integral part of the company’s Executive Committee.
  • Further strengthening legislative compliance, our Health & Safety Executive Committee oversees all risk-management processes to ensure consistent policy implementation and auditing across WGC. All members of the committee are NEBOSH qualified.
  • All abseiling and high-access activities are performed by IRATA approved licensed operators.
  • WGC is an accredited member of the industry standard SafeContractor scheme.

WGC is committed to acting responsibly and to supporting the corporate social responsibility programmes of its clients.

Looking after our people
We are proud of the diversity of our workforce and have a strong track record of providing equal opportunities and treating people in a fair, open and honest manner.

The success of WGC rests with the 3,000-strong workforce that delivers our services and we are committed to creating a positive working environment and to providing opportunities for career advancement.

Safeguarding our environment
We take our responsibilities to the environment seriously and work closely with our clients to implement best practice. To guide our operations, we have created a Six Point Commitment to the Environment:

  • To conserve natural resources and energy within our operations without sacrificing safety standards or jeopardising client satisfaction.

  • To select the products and materials from environmentally responsible resources that, wherever possible, have positive beneficial effects.

  • To minimise and efficiently manage waste production.

  • To acknowledge regional differences in environmental needs and practices by establishing adaptable local programmes designed to improve the performance of each individual site.

  • To identify ways to participate in local communities’ action on the environment worldwide.

  • To develop awareness of environmental issues internally and externally through a variety of education and training initiatives.
